چکیده مقاله:

Objectives The aim of this study is finding a practical and easy way to differentiate, between two malignant tumors Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (ACC) and Polymorphous Low-grade Adeno Carcinoma (PLGA) histologically. In this regard, We proposed silver nitrate staining (AgNOR). Methods In this cross-sectional study, 30 parrafin-embedded blocks of ACC and 9 paraffin-embedded blocks of PLGA with the most acceptable standards elected and stained with silver nitrate. Then the number and quality (size and pattern) of the stained spots in 5 random microscopic fields at 100× magnification (at least 100 cells) were evaluated. To compare the number of dots between the two tumors T-test was used and the quality of dots, compared with Mann-Whitney U test. Results The mean AgNOR counts for ACC (3/45), and for PLGA (2/45). Significant differences were observed in the number of dots between the ACC and PLGA (p=0.004), but in terms of quality, there was no statistically significant difference between the two tumors. Conclusion AgNOR count can be useful as an available method in confirm the diagnosis of ACC from PLGA.

evaluation of adenoid cystic carcinoma and polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma by immunohistochemistry

background and aim: salivary gland tumors classification continuously undergoes alternations, especially in the recent years. this study used immunohistochemical markers for distinguishing between polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (plga) and adenocarcinoma carcinoma (adcc) which have several overlapping histological and clinical features. materials & methods: ten adcc and eight plga with fi...

Immunologic profiling of adenoid cystic carcinoma (acc)

Background Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is among the most common malignant salivary gland tumors. Approximately 50% of patients develop distant metastases and up to one third die within 2 years. Chemotherapy provides limited benefit, and is not associated with a survival advantage. Radiotherapy is standard for localized disease, and is also commonly used for palliation of symptomatic metastas...

Comparison of immunohistochemical markers between adenoid cystic carcinoma and polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma.

Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) and polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) have several common histological and clinicopathological features that may create diagnostic difficulties. In this study, 10 AdCCs, 8 PLGAs, and 5 normal minor salivary glands as a control group were selected. Sections prepared from each tumor were stained using the streptavidin-biotin system for seven marker antig...

Primary cutaneous adenoid cystic carcinoma of shin

Primary cutaneous adenoid cystic carcinoma (PCACC) is a rare variant of adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) which originates from the skin adnexa, most probably eccrine and apocrine glands. This tumor has a head and neck predilection and also occurs in the chest, abdomen, back, and perineum. We hereby present a 63-year-old man with PCACC located on the shin. No previous similar case has been reporte...

Diagnostic utility of C-kit protein (CD117) expression in differentiating adenoid cystic carcinoma and polymorphous low grade Adenocarcinoma

Background & Objective To evaluate usefulness of immunohistochemical marker C-kit (CD117) in differentiating Adenoid cystic carcinoma (AdCC) from Polymorphous low-grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) in patients of salivary gland carcinomas. AdCC is a malignant salivary gland neoplasm with poor prognosis. PLGA is a salivary gland malignancy with indolent growth pattern. Differentiating between the two e...
